pre-owned instrument, hard shell case included
This guitar is a chambered solid body version of a Perfecta, with a one piece hard curly maple body. The neck shape is an all-time favorite, a D'Aquisto Centura profile, and is made of hard curly maple with a 100 year-old (yes,100 year-old) flame Ironwood fingerboard. The neck feels like a classic archtop neck, a perfect size and shape and comfortable across and along the entire length.
This is a rare opportunity to own a completely custom guitar made for an extremely discerning customer in 2008. It is a totally unique instrument, and very special. It has its roots in the work of Jimmy D'Aquisto, but builds upon that foundation and looks to the future.
Let me put it simply. It’s a solid body guitar built for a lover of jazz guitars.
More precisely, this guitar is a chambered solid body version of a Perfecta, (which you can also read about on my site) with a one piece hard curly maple body. The neck shape is one of my all-time favorites, a D'Aquisto Centura profile, and is made of hard curly maple with a 100 year-old (yes,100 year-old) flame Ironwood fingerboard. The neck feels like a classic archtop neck, a perfect size and shape and comfortable across and along the entire length.
It just begs to be played.
The body is thin, and very comfortable to play. Whether you’re standing or sitting, the guitar just lays perfectly under your arm, and the neck falls effortlessly into your left hand.
The appointments are incredible. The tail piece is custom CNC machined two-piece billet class brass, the floating pickguard is flame ironwood, and there is a beautiful gold pearl inlay on the 12th fret. This guitar also features Rodgers tuners from Great Britain, which many consider to be the finest in the world.
This guitar speaks incredibly fast and powerfully. with its one Duncan Antiquity pickup, this guitar is ready to play Martino and Benson lines like nobody's business, but can also handle the sweetest chords you can find.
To me, it feels like the guitar is a star athlete, muscular and powerful, but also capable of subtlety. This is a Jazz guitar that Jimmy D'Aquisto would have liked, I think, and is well suited to the huge range of Jazz styles being played today.
Come visit and try it out for yourself. It’s a real gem, and a real rarity.

ABOUT MCCURDY GUITARS
For 25 years, Ric McCurdy has committed himself to designing and building for people who love to play fine guitars; guitars that respond to your musical knowledge, your skill and your touch; guitars that inspire you to continue to grow as an artist and musician. Ric McCurdy came to his life's work through a series of fortunate encounters with great people. Since setting up shop in the heart of New York City, he has built and repaired guitars for many exacting musicians like John Ambercrombie, Joe Beck, Sheryl Bailey, Jimmy Vivino, the Blue Man Group, John Fohl and Kenny Loggins to name a few. Ric had the good fortune to spend time with Bob Benedetto, who graciously shared a lifetime of his unique knowledge, and over the years he has had the opportunity to play, study, and repair many D'Angelico and D'Aquisto guitars, experience which helped him appreciate the acoustic potential of carved archtop instruments in the tradition of Stradivarius. After experiencing how a great archtop can sound Ric is always reaching for consistency of each note on the neck, with the same volume, richness and tone in every position and in every key. Ric has found through continuous experimentation that this level of musical output can be achieved while delivering to guitarists a level of comfort and playability which they have never experienced in any other guitars. Ric McCurdy's goal is for you to enjoy playing hour after hour, to own a guitar that maintains its stability but grows in volume, richness and investment value year after year. Playability and tone are what make it a McCurdy guitar.
