You'll just love this guitar’s simplicity; it’s all GUITAR, nothing added that doesn’t belong here. Compared to a vintage Gibson L5, this Collings Archtop 16 is every bit its equal but with the added bonus of possessing a modern playability and a more versatile tonal palette. The fit and finish are astounding, built with the most exquisite selection of woods and nitro shaded with one of richest sunburst finishes that Collings offers. This guitar is DEEP.
Built in very limited numbers, the Collings 16" archtops are a rarity among modern archtop models in that they are designed to be played as acoustic guitars. Based on the earliest American f-hole archtops of the 1920s, they have a warm and balanced response that has converted many flattop players to the clarity, projection, and immediate response that an archtop instrument can provide. The simple appointments of this sleek guitar, highlighted by the gracefully shaded finish, prove that less can indeed be more.
CRAIG'S POVI just love this guitar’s simplicity; it’s all GUITAR, nothing added that doesn’t belong here. I owned a 1932 Gibson L5, that was my main session archtop for years, and I have to say that this Collings Archtop 16 is every bit its equal but with the added bonus of possessing a modern playability and a more versatile tonal palette. The fit and finish are astounding, built with the most exquisite selection of woods and nitro shaded with one of richest sunburst finishes that Collings offers. This guitar is DEEP. You can get lost in its acoustic nuances and never tire of the wonderful ergonomic 16" size body or it’s peerlessly carved neck profile. In addition, this is a nearly impossible guitar to acquire. Collings isn’t taking new orders and it's very rare to find one on the used market, let alone one as pristine as this. If you are in search for the perfect acoustic archtop I strongly suggest that you add this Collings to your list. It's Bill Collings at his very best.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
