"bubble" quilted maple
The flawless fretwork (as always with Collings) and a '50s style full C neck make the guitar a joy to play. The Collings custom made wrap-around tailpiece anchors the stings to a single point on the top, to help the strings trigger vibration throughout the body of the guitar. Just as in the last model we had, this guitar seems honest. There's 'you' in every note.
Crafted with the finest seasoned maple and Honduran mahogany, the CL Deluxe is built for tone. Lightweight, resonant mahogany combined with a carefully hand-set mortise and tenon neck joint bring tonal complexity and sustain to the table in spades. Sleekly contoured for comfort and style, Collings has brought new life to an American classic.
CRAIG'S POVI had one of these guitars here not long ago, and it sold very quickly. I loved it so much that I ordered another one just like it. All mahogany, with a beautiful TV yellow nitro finish. This guitar just says happiness to me; it makes me happy to look at it, and it makes me very happy to play it. It just seems to lighten my mood, and somehow eases all my daily struggles. It is just a pleasure in every way.
This guitar is solid mahogany but only weighs 8.15 pounds, which is rare. That lightness gives this guitar a remarkable balance between resonance and sustain. It gives you the sustain of a heavy instrument, but the lively voice and resonance of a lighter instrument.
In fact, this is one of the most resonant of this style guitar I have played. Played clean through an amp, there is a sweetness to the tone that just sings. Dime the amp, or play through an overdrive pedal, and there is a wonderfully complex but articulate overdrive that just kills. The tone is pure vintage: warm and rich, full and complex.
The lightness also makes it very comfortable to play with a strap. Another reason is one of BillÕs great refinements to this style of guitar: Carefully constructed side cuts. They just feel right.

It's like someone drove a stake through the heart of this guitar. It just bleeds every single note. Just as in the last model we had, this guitar seems honest. There's 'you' in every note.
I summed up the last TV Yellow CL Deluxe with one word: soul... That guitar had it, and this guitar has every bit of the same. Its an incredibly soulful guitar that screams joy in its looks, its playability and its sound.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
