This is one of the finest acoustic guitars I have ever played. It’s exquisite. And truly rare. According to Collings, there are probably no more than six CJ42aaaA guitars like this in world. It was lovingly crafted in 2004 with the very finest and select Brazilian rosewood Collings had available.
The woods are fantastic. The Brazilian is quarter sawn and straight grained, subtly enhanced with a touch of flame and figuring. The 42 style inlay work is masterfully executed, a true work of art. The finish has mellowed with age giving the CJ a warm amber glow. The overall condition of the guitar is excellent++ with hardly any signs of wear. The uber quality Brazilian back and sides look as if this guitar has barely been played. The snow flake inlays crafted into the fine ebony fine board are truly exquisite. The fine and exacting workmanship is just masterful!
The sound is simply glorious! The CJ has the sonic robustness of a fine vintage guitar with that touch of reverb quality that only AAA Brazilian brings to the table.
The lows are full of character and richness, while the highs ring true and clear. The playability is outstanding and the neck profile is of the most comfortable I’ve ever played on an acoustic.
Like a fine wine, age has enhanced all the innate wonders of this fine musical instrument. This is Collings at its absolute best! It’s simply a guitar that can hold its own against the finest bespoke guitars on the market past or present.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
