Preowned 2015, near-mint
Originally sold by the shop, this 2015 Collings CJ was custom ordered with Madagascar rosewood body and a German spruce top. This beauty is in near mint condition with a few finish scratches and one small ding on the top. Where this guitar particularly shines is that it's got a very wide range sound and at the same time a real personality across its tonal range. Beautifully executed in every way, from the comfortably shaped round neck to the wonderful sound, this CJ is Bill Collings' example of everything thing a slope shouldered dreadnought should be.
The CJ is Collings' version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought, a shape that has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. While the CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. A very versatile guitar that can feel at home across many styles of music.
CRAIG'S POVOriginally sold by the shop, this 2015 Collings CJ was custom ordered with Madagascar rosewood body and a German spruce top. This beauty is in near mint condition with a few finish scratches and one small ding on the top. The Madagascar, though ordered as "B grade," is wonderfully grained without being too exotic. A simply lovely guitar!
The 25 1/2" scale length combined with the bigger size body imparts a full and robust tone. Where this guitar particularly shines is that while it is capable of being quite loud it also has a woody warmth that is perfect for an intimate setting. Simplly put, it has personality. It can be very bluesy in its bass and mids but definitely punches through in its luminous trebles with the clear tones that say Collings all the way. One of the most versatile slope shoulder guitars I've come across.
Beautifully executed in every way, from the comfortably shaped round neck to the wonderful sound, this CJ is Bill Collings' example of everything thing a slope shouldered dreadnought should be.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
