Crafted with the finest seasoned koa and Honduran mahogany, the City Limits is built for tone. Lightweight, resonant mahogany, with a carefully hand-set mortise and tenon joint, bring tonal complexity to the table in spades.

CRAIG'S POV

As I’ve mentioned before, I think the design and construction of the Collings City Limits sets the bar as to what a modern LP style could be, from tone to playability to feel to finish. For this model, however, I wanted all that Collings goodness in a less-adorned CL .

At the heart of it was my feeling that I needed to make the simplified version just as cool and respectable as the more elite version. I know there are people who just want “The Thing”. No extras, ma’am. Just deliver it to me straight. And Collings came through.

The acid wash finish is stunning. For Collings to get it right, and give a proper staining, the maple they chose for the top for the Acid Wash finish had to be mind blowingly good. It is. I think this maple is as fine as you’ll find on any instrument Collings offers.

I thought the attitude had to carry over the entire instrument. That meant a black ebony fingerboard was in order. For some sexiness, zebra humbuckers. Plus one of my favorite bridges  - the new Collings custom wraparound. This bridge gives such a solid transmission of tone and vibration, I just love it.

And Voila!!  I present to you one cool guitar.

This is the lightest CL's I've had at just about 8lbs. As always the fit and finish are immaculate. The tone is everything you'd expect from the CL. (check my other POV's, and you’ll know what I mean). Just a perfect combinations of options that not only make a killer guitar but also allow you to experience a fantastic Collings at a more reasonable price.

If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
