Collings I35 LC - Preowned w/ Throbaks

The I35 LC is the result of a custom laminated construction technique that Bill Collings and his R&D team developed in pursuit of the best tonal qualities of vintage semi-hollow guitar design. When crafting instruments designed to be used electrically at higher volumes, the resonant qualities of a guitar need a high degree of focus to achieve some of the classic semi-hollow guitar tones. The I35 LC is the first of a line of laminate instruments designed to respond acoustically in perfect harmony with their electronics. Custom crafted in house for each guitar, the Collings laminate line has provided another unique way for us to voice our instruments for superior response and tone. The I35 LC features a custom laminate maple top, sides and back and an all mahogany neck. The I35 LC is among our most articulate and versatile electric models.

Up for sale is a wonderful preowned 2013 Collings I35LC in tobacco sunburst. I’m a huge fan of this model— read previous POV’s and you’ll see- but what makes this particular guitar special is its Throkak pickups. The PG- 102 MXV humbucker set are wound with the same output specifications as the vintage Patent Applied For pickups in the original "Greenie”. They utilize vintage spec. A5 degaussed to vintage levels to provide a player the power and focus that was such a integral part of the Peter Green sound.

Other than some light scratches and a small dent in the top, this guitar is in excellent condition.
The neck profile is very comfortable, reminiscent of a late 50’s Gibson. The playability is outstanding as one would certainly expect from any guitar that Bill Collings makes.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers.
