Our new Collings OM2 G SS Cutaway is everything we hoped it would be (and more). The mission was to have a CR Guitars model Collings that would satisfy all-around acoustic needs, in much the same way the remarkable Manzer acoustic fulfills this essential role. That meant, first and foremost, it had to be a superb sounding instrument. Beyond that, it had to be a guitar that was able to cover many musical styles. It needed to make fingerstyle style players light up as much as it would delight guitarists who use a pick.
Many fine guitar shops specialize in acoustic guitars. They carry all the notable names in every shape, color, and wood configuration. If you are looking for lots to choose from then, those shops are a great way to go. Here at CR Guitars, I have always tried to offer a smaller collection of hand-selected guitars that have a strong point of view. Guitars that have the potential to deeply connect to the player. Guitars that will inspire you and put a big smile on your face. Guitars that remind you why you fell in love with GUITARS in the first place. With that in mind, I tasked my friends at Collings to build an OM model that would put a big smile on my face. After several months of waiting, it's here… and I'm smiling - big time!
Our new Collings OM2 G SS Cutaway is everything I hoped it would be (and more). My mission was to have a CR Guitars model Collings that would satisfy my all-around acoustic needs, in much the same way my remarkable Manzer acoustic has fulfilled this essential role. That meant, first and foremost, it had to be a superb sounding instrument. Beyond that, it had to be a guitar that was able to cover many musical styles. It needed to make fingerstyle style players light up as much as it would delight guitarists who use a pick. The guitar needed to be modern in its fit, finish and ease of playability - hence the 24.9" scale length. I chose a very select clean German spruce top with a striking Indian rosewood back and sides. I added a cutaway for easy upper fret access, ivoroid binding throughout, and an elegant flourish peghead inlay. Beyond that, Collings added a pickup-ready 1/2" end-pin-hole. Finally, in putting this build together, I wanted to offer a guitar that would satisfy the acoustic guitar collector's spirit without breaking the bank. Collings really came through for me here. Simply put, this is a masterfully built OM, one that's comfortable to play, with an articulate tone that reflects its superior craftsmanship. I suspect that after playing it, you'll feel the same.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
