Daniel Slaman's new solid body electric model, the Pauletta, is a wonderfully bold statement; there are no punches pulled here. Slaman set out to create a richly resonant electric that was feedback resistant, woody sounding, and inspiring to play. Crafted with lightweight tone woods by one of the finest builders, this dual pickup version of the Pauletta offers the jazz player a truly honest alternative to a hollow body guitar while giving the rock and blues player a familiar tonal palette.

CRAIG'S POV

Daniel Slaman's new solid body electric model, the Pauletta, is a wonderfully bold statement; there are no punches pulled here. Slaman set out to create a richly resonant electric that was feedback resistant, woody sounding, and inspiring to play. Crafted with lightweight tone woods by one of the finest builders, this dual pickup version of the Pauletta offers the jazz player a truly honest alternative to a hollow body guitar while giving the rock and blues player a familiar tonal palette.

This Pauletta is one of the most versatile solid bodies I have ever played. The combination of the custom Charlie Christian and Duncan P90 along with the handmade 250 style tailpiece add a sonic quality that I haven’t experienced in other solid body electrics. The CC sound is immediate and present with a warmth and brilliance that is addictive and truly satisfying to a contemporary jazz guitarist. The P90 is rich and hits that perfect blues button right on its head. To my ears this guitar can cover the full musical territory of a 'burst, 335 or electric archtop. Note, I really feel that the handmade tailpiece adds a zing, a certain harmonic quality to the tone that is beyond what a traditional stop tail piece offers.

The brilliant Miles Okazaki has been playing one and his sound is just killing. As for the guitar itself, Slaman has put as much care and love into it as he does for his incredible archtops. His wood recipe of maple and Spanish cedar only adds to its tingling resonance. The fit and finish are righteous and the neck carve — very '59 feeling- is just perfect. I really love this guitar, the way it feels, looks and sounds. Heads up all my fellow archtop and Les Paul lovers, there is a new gal in town: the Pauletta.

If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.

ABOUT DANIEL SLAMAN GUITARS
Daniel Slaman has been making guitars since 1978. Born in 1957, the first guitar was made with help from his father and the book ‘Classical Guitar Making’ by the late Irving Sloane. After spending much time with the classical and flamenco guitars, since 1995 Daniel has been making archtop jazz guitars exclusively. To Slaman, guitar making is an expression of creative freedom; every choice that is made for a particular guitar is made to achieve a unity in design. The result may not be to everybody's taste, that's a different matter, but the unity of design should always shine through in choices of wood, size, decoration and finish colour of the guitar. The result is always a unique one-of-a-kind instrument, made by one mind and set of hands. Slaman players connect to their guitar(s) in a unique way. To these owners, the guitar has a meaning beyond physical aspects; there's always a bond or connection between the player and the guitar. The guitars transcend the status of mere physical objects; they almost become a part of the family, an irreplaceable item of value both material and immaterial.
