Like the perfect '56 Strat, this guitar has a lightweight alder body and one piece maple neck with a sweet medium/full neck carve. Big, exquisitely dressed frets along with a hand rubbed oil finished neck give it an effortlessly smooth playability. To be able to cover all the musical bases - any studio or live playing situation - Don installed his very versatile humbuckers, which split in the Strat positions. The tonal palette is vast!
The ultimate "traditional" strat-style instrument with unmatched tone and playability. Very similar to our Retro Classic in tone, the NOS Retro combines the traditional "S" shape and features with the unmatched construction, tone and playability of a Grosh. The NOS Retro features a true "S" body shape, vintage pickup routing and traditional truss rod construction. For the player who must have the look and features of a traditional strat-style guitar but demands the ultimate in tone and playability, it doesn't get any better than the NOS Retro. And like every custom Grosh guitar, the NOS features master-grade, tone-tapped woods, ultra-thin nitro-lacquer finish and handcrafted Grosh pickups.
CRAIG'S POVI've had a wonderful relationship with Don for many years. Initially, it was as a professional player when I needed a great instrument to take to any gig. Then, when I decided to open up CR Guitars, Grosh was the first builder I approached. I have immense respect for his abilities, his dedication, and his craft.
I always get excited when a spark of inspiration strikes me and I know that to fulfill it, I need to order a custom build from Don. So, being a dyed in the wool Strat player, I asked Don to make me a S Style guitar that would cover all the musical bases in any live or studio situation. But more than a tonal range, the guitar needed to have vintage appeal as well as play and perform like a well tuned, thoroughbred modern instrument. As always, Don rose to the challenged and just nailed it. Like my '56 Strat, it has a lightweight alder body and one piece maple neck with a sweet medium/full neck carve. Big, exquisitely dressed frets along with a hand rubbed oil finished neck give it an effortlessly smooth playability. To be able to cover all the musical bases - any studio or live playing situation - I had Don install his very versatile humbuckers, which split in the Strat positions. The tonal palette is vast. Honestly, if I got called to go tour with say, Steely Dan (just wishful thinking) — Blackie here would be my go to guitar.
Bottom line: If you are looking for a exceedingly versatile S style guitar that radiates tone coupled with with exquisite playability, the Grosh NOS Retro should be on your radar. And in your hands.
If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.
