Being one of only 400 produced, this guitar represents a piece of rock history that's been played and enjoyed. The genuine holly veneer (Gibson USA's first use since 1969) and grade-A mahogany body still deliver that distinctive tonal character that made Frank's original so special. It's a gigging musician's tool, ready to deliver the sonic versatility that Zappa was famous for.
Condition: Very good. An excellent player with some fret wear. Body and pickguard have adhesive marks and rashes from removing the stickers (refer to pictures).
CRAIG'S POVThis 2013 Gibson Frank Zappa "Roxy" SG is a seasoned player's guitar that's been genuinely enjoyed. It shows its history with some surface marking and residual adhesive on the body and pickguard from the original owner's previously removed stickers. Despite these cosmetic traits, this faithful recreation of Frank's legendary "Roxy & Elsewhere" SG remains a serious instrument.
The electronics remain in perfect working order, and that’s where this guitar truly shines. Those uncovered Super '57 humbuckers with AlNiCo II magnets (7.9k neck, 8.5k bridge) deliver that essential PAF magic. The modified control layout matches Frank's design with its mini-toggle phase switch, coil-splitting options, and independent volume and tone controls - all functioning flawlessly and providing immediate access to those iconic "Roxy" tones.
The early-'60s slim neck carve feels wonderfully played-in, and while there's some fret wear, the playability remains excellent - perfect for those intricate Zappa passages. The Maestro-style vibrola, with its distinctive flat-bar handle and Lyre tailpiece, operates smoothly, providing all the expressive control you need.
