James Tyler Studio Elite, Fly Yellow

Yellow. There's golden yellow, maize, banana yellow, canary yellow, dandelion yellow, lemon yellow, citrine yellow, brass-yellow, school bus yellow, laser yellow; so many shades, flavors, recipes, and permutations of the color yellow. However, my favorite iteration happens to be Fly Yellow, sometimes called Ferrari Light Yellow. Legend has it that a Coca-Cola distributor ordered a Ferrari, but since they were already available in red (like Coca-Cola red), he decided he wanted it to be the color of the wooden crates Coke used back in the day.

I wanted a Strat-style guitar in that finish, a guitar that would be a beast, that would be able to rock and roar, one that would be a weapon of mass destruction in the hands of players like Mike Landau or Steve Lukather. So, I called the one man I knew who could build a fantastic instrument and get the yellow just right: James Tyler. And build it, he did.

Just looking at a brand new Studio Elite HD with that arresting (and unique) Fly Yellow color makes my heart beat faster. This color is just stunning. Set against a black/yellow/black pickguard, black pickups, black hardware and a black headstock, it is a total James Tyler look. As with all of Jim's guitars, the playability is off the charts. The fantastic neck shape and rolled fingerboard edges are super comfy and are the the kind of details that make Tyler guitars so coveted and renowned. The dual humbuckers he specified add a sonic flavor to the Strat platform. Big, bold tones that cross the boundaries of your typical Strat land. This stunning James Tyler SE  would be a welcome addition to any S-players' arsenal. Go yellow!

ABOUT TYLER GUITARS
James Tyler has had a guitar in his hand almost every day since he first picked one up the summer after seventh grade, in 1964. In college, Jim studied Architecture, Design, Music, Photography and for a couple years, Theology. He paid his way through these years of collage doing guitar repair work at local guitar stores, and as a factory trained auto mechanic for Alfa Romeo, Lancia, BMW and Fiat. Later into the 1970’s, he got connected with the guys at Norman’s Rare Guitars in the San Fernando Valley, and became their main repair and restoration guy. Jim’s abilities continued to expand and soon he had enough experience and reputation that he opened his first repair shop in Reseda, CA in 1980.
