Even though the Lowden O body is a jumbo sized guitar, it's not at all heavy or muddy sounding. You don’t have to give up any clarity or sweetness for the depth of sound a jumbo-sized guitar brings to the party. If you’ve put up with that kind of muddiness for the sake of a ‘big’ sound, this guitar will be a revelation. It’s exquisite to look at. It’s exquisite to play. In a beautiful package, a superb acoustic instrument.
The 'O' is the most widely recognized Lowden shape, having been the first of George Lowden's designs, and remains unchanged since the mid 1970s. It is the largest size and is sought after for its bass and overtones, and has traditionally been the preferred choice for fingerstyle and open tuning. It has a deep and resonant tone.
CRAIG'S POVFor those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of playing a Lowden guitar, let me tell you; they’re very special instruments. Take a look at the players who play them professionally (all of whom could endorse pretty much any acoustic they choose) and you’ll get a sense of how much of a bond they create with the player.
They’re that good. Truly.
What impresses me immediately about this model is its sweet, clear voice and deep resonance.

There is something very special about how Lowden voices his guitars that allows them to be incredibly versatile and open sounding. I’m not sure exactly how Lowden achieves this, but he does. Maybe it's his dolphin profile soundboard voicing, or his special recipe of multiple AAA grade tone woods.
Everything rings true. His split saddle construction (see photos) helps ensure truly accurate tuning.
This is a guitar that transcend any one style. It would be as great for fingerstyle as it would for strumming or picking. The O design is the original Lowden body style, and it has been refined over the years. It’s exquisite to look at. It’s exquisite to play. In a beautiful package, a superb acoustic instrument.
Lowden guitars are an inspiring delight.

ABOUT LOWDEN GUITARS
Lowden guitars occupy a unique place in the pantheon of high-end flattops. With a loud and overtone-rich signature voice, unique construction details (including a split saddle and A-frame bracing of the upper bout), and a general vibe that differs from most classic American steel-strings, the guitars have found fans in such heavyweights as Pierre Bensusan, Paul Brady, Alex de Grassi, Richard Thompson, and many others. Lowden production began in 1974, and after several changes in management and manufacturing facilities, the guitars are now built in a small Northern Ireland shop under the direct supervision of company founder George Lowden.
