Having apprenticed with Linda Manzer for several years now, there is a certain “Linda-ness” to Peggy White's guitars, something unique and ever present. A beautiful guitar that is finely built with quality woods and attention to detail, crafted by someone who cares about the ever evolving art of lutherie. Her Premier model has that clean, clear bell like tone that allows the player to step into that sonic world and build his/her own musical identity.
I’d like to welcome Peggy White to CR Guitars select group of acoustic guitar builders.
A little back story; In the early '90s I was looking for an acoustic guitar that was not going to be another version of a Martin. I wanted a guitar that didn’t evoke your traditional folk or finger picking style. I wanted a guitar that would inspire me with a more modern sound and feel, sort of a wonderful blank canvas that I could paint my own musical pictures on.
At the suggestion of my dear friend Roger Sadowsky I searched out the Canadian school of builders, which at that time included Larrivee, David Wren, Grit Laskin and Linda Manzer. I found with the Canadian builders the clear bell like tones I was looking for to enhance my musical world. My deepest relationship has been with the now world famous Linda Manzer who over the years has built me many instruments that have supported me throughout my career.
And this is where Peggy White enters the picture. Having apprenticed with Manzer for several years now, there is a certain “Linda-ness” to her guitars, something unique and ever present. A beautiful guitar that is finely built with quality woods and attention to detail, crafted by someone who cares about the ever evolving art of lutherie.
Her Premier model has that clean, clear bell like tone that allows the player to step into that sonic world and build his/her own musical identity. This acoustic would be perfect for the jazz player who wants to express themselves on a flat top as well as a more traditional stylist. What I’m trying to convey here is that Peggy’s guitars, like those of other Canadian builders, is not style specific. They cross musical boundaries and allow the player to dictate musical direction. The guitars' sound develops over time and rings true to whoever is fortunate enough to own one and “break it in.”
If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.
ABOUT PEGGY WHITE GUITARS
With a deep appreciation for the materials she uses, Peggy White builds guitars that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the ear. She is comfortable building her various steel string models to suit a variety of playing styles. A very important component is developing relationships with her clients to inform the way she modifies the build to suit that individual. Peggy's building career began with a 6 month stint at the Larrivee shop. Years later she attended Sergei de Jonge's guitar building course and from there she became Linda Manzer's apprentice. She presently divides her time between working with Linda and building her own guitars.
