Tonally this guitar crosses genres, from jazz to blues, from country to rock. This PS PRS would be at home in the hands of Robben Ford, Bill Frisell, John McLaughlin, Trey Anastasio or many other guitarists you might admire. Unlike other PRS Hollowbody models, this guitar has 2 volumes and 2 tones. The PRS 58/15 LT pickups have an extended dynamic range and there are further tonal options and versatility when the coil tap is engaged.
The first Hollowbody McCarty 594 built!
PRS Private Stock guitars are truly bespoke instruments. The master luthiers who build them have unfettered access to PRS's legendary snd highly coveted wood stores (over many years the company has built an enormous collection of the best wood they could find in the world). They're also given the freedom and time to pay the greatest possible attention to every detail of the guitar. Private Stock instruments simply get closer to perfection, that elusive ideal that every guitar maker desires.
THE GUITAR:
I'm absolutely blown away by this Private Stock Hollowbody that recently arrived at the shop. It's the very first Hollowbody 594 to be built by PRS. Being a real fan of the new 594 model, I had contacted my friends at Private Stock about a year ago with the request of marrying the 594 and Hollowbody models into one awesome archtop guitar. It would, of course, be a Private Stock build, done with the same perfection of detail and quality that I'd expect in all their work.
All I can say, in short, is that they nailed it, BIG TIME. This beauty is everything I hoped for and more. Tonally it crosses genres, from jazz to blues, from country to rock. To me this PS PRS would be at home in the hands of Robben Ford, Bill Frisell, John McLaughlin, Trey Anastasio, pretty much any guitar player I can think of and admire. Unlike other PRS Hollowbody models, this guitar has 2 volumes and 2 tones. The PRS 58/15 LT pickups have an extended dynamic range and there are further tonal options and versatility when the coil tap is engaged. In addition, there is a wonderful woody acoustic quality that translates beautifully when amped through my Blackface Princeton.
This exceptionally lightweight guitar is not ostentatious in any way, but rather has a refined aesthetic. Yet somehow it also succeeds in being visually exciting - it's the kind of guitar that gets your heart racing just looking at it. The now classic bird inlays are sophisticated yet simple, and I love the curly maple binding, not to mention the vintage pattern carved figured mahogany neck, which looks and feels just wonderful.
The scale is slightly shorter than the normal PRS scale of 25". At 24.594" there is a little less string tension which lends a very responsive and smooth feel. As a player, this vintage scale length along with Paul's sublime neck carve - one of my all time favorites- makes me feel really at home, like this guitar just belongs in my hands.
This is truly a superb guitar, one that reminds me how fine an instrument can be when crafted by someone who sweats and cares about every detail of the build process. If you are looking for a guitar with a broad tonal palette, something unique - after all, it IS the very first one - something stunning and inspiring, then I think this PRS Private Stock Hollowbody 1 McCarty 594 is worthy of your consideration.
If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.
ABOUT PRS PRIVATE STOCK
Everyone has heard of PRS Guitars; they are one of America's great entrepreneurial success stories. But not everyone has heard of the Paul Reed Smith Private Stock instruments. These are special guitars, in every sense. That's what inspired us here at CR Guitars to seek them out; they conform perfectly to our vision of what "hand selected" really means. The goal behind the PRS Private Stock of instruments is not only to create the most beautiful and best playing guitars money can buy, but the best sounding. PRS works very closely with each order - through hourly discussions, experimentation, meticulous checks of every detail at each step in the process and making final tweaks when the guitar is complete - to make sure they are building the best guitars possible. If you get an extraordinary instrument from Private Stock that is equally as good as a family heirloom and a musician’s tool to make a living on, then the Private Stock goal has come to fruition.
“Whether built to your specification or ours, every Private Stock instrument is carefully guided through the process by highly talented, seasoned guitar makers, and each completed instrument is checked and signed by Paul Miles and me. From all of us on the Private Stock team, thank you for looking at and considering a Private Stock instrument. If you decide on a Private Stock guitar, we will give everything we have to make it the best instrument you’ve ever experienced.” - Paul Reed Smith
