The playability of this Selmer-style guitar is fantastic. It's easily the smoothest playing Gypsy guitar ever. As per Shelley Park's suggestion, the soundport is a welcome addition, as it gives the player an enhanced sonic experience. The extras, from the exquisite Miller tuners to the specially designed Big Tone piezo pickup, all add to Shelly's modern take on a traditional design. And of course, this guitar, with its amber tinted European spruce top, is both classic and beautiful. Just like Django's music.

The design of the Modèle Encore is based on the later models produced by the Selmer Company of France. This instrument features a long scale length, greater fret accessibility and the 'petite bouche' soundhole.

The bright, clear, focussed tone of this model along with 14 frets clear of the body make it an ideal choice as a solo instrument. It also serves the rhythm guitarist well with a punch that will drive a rhythm section.

CRAIG'S POV

I was originally introduced to Shelley several years ago through my dear friend and uber luthier Linda Manzer. I remember playing several of Shelley's guitars and being quite impressed with them.

While many Selmer style guitars can often be a bear to play with their longer scale length and high action, Shelley's guitars were different. They had all the sound and mojo of a fine Gypsy guitar but possessed a modern feel and playability.

Cut to the last summer when I found myself spending a good part of my time being obsessed with the sound and style of Django Reinhart. I practiced my heart out trying to get to the heart of his music. And I loved everything about it. Except for the instrument I was playing.

Django's sound and technique have always amazed me. That's when it hit me. In the years I've had CR Guitars I have never had a Selmer-style guitar grace the shop. I figured, if I am having so much fun and enjoyment playing this music, then someone else would be as well. I was on a mission to get a great Gypsy guitar in the shop. To do that, I needed to start a build relationship with a new luthier. Ok, you all know where this is headed. After confirming what I already knew with other builders and players, Shelly Park's name came up front and center as one of the best builders out there.

Working with Shelley was a dream come true. Over the years since our first meeting, her reputation has grown and her knowledge of this style guitar and music - she is an accomplished player herself - has exceeded my own. I welcomed her suggestions and ended up with a superlative Park Modèle Encore.

The playability is fantastic. It's easily the smoothest playing Gypsy guitar I've laid my hands on. As per her suggestion, the soundport is a welcome addition, as it gives the player an enhanced sonic experience. The extras, from the exquisite Miller tuners to the specially designed Big Tone piezo pickup, all add to Shelly's modern take on a traditional design. And of course, this guitar, with its amber tinted European spruce top, is both classic and beautiful. Just like Django's music.
