Stephen's Master Burst covers all the sonic bases but at the same time provides a player with an inspired platform to express their individual voice. It's a remarkable instrument. Here's what it's not: just another 'burst clone. Yes, it can rip, tear and scream through a solo, but with its finely tweaked resonance and presence, it's as if the guitar has been sweetly EQ'd, shelving the low end woof, adjusting the mids while boosting some transient highs.
I always look forward to introducing a new model from my builders. Especially when I know that Stephen Marchione has been thinking about building one for years; all the while perfecting his skills building exceptional violins, flattops, archtops and semis. His new Master Burst is filled with all the goodness of that skill and thoughtfulness. Above all, Stephen did not want to it to be just another LP, just another rock and roll machine that could be added to the multitude of electrics available today. And so he didn't. Think of it this way: this guitar is to an LP as Marchione's semi-hollow is to a 335. Early in his career, Stephen strived to build guitars that Jimmy D'’Aquisto would approve of. With that being his Everest, I think he nailed it.
The result is a single cut electric tone that has been modernized to bring out all the juice, all the best stuff. It brings out you, which is one of the highest accolades I can give any guitar.
Of course, being a Marchione, the fit, finish and wood selection are beyond stellar. The way the one piece mahogany body and highly figured silver maple top are carved for comfort and tone, the absolutely fantastic '59 neck profile and fretwork, the powerful and comfortable way the neck joins the body, (check the photos) the all hide glue joinery—every single detail has been painstakingly thought out and executed to perfection.
The Master Burst is made for the player who wants to go deep, to explore their relationship with a classic style guitar that is next level stuff.
If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.
ABOUT MARCHIONE GUITARS
At one time in his life, Stephen Marchione spent six hours a day playing the guitar. Now he makes them—in fact, since beginning his career as a guitar maker in 1989, Stephen has created more than three-hundred guitars for some of the best guitar players in the world. The journey from high-school jazz devotee to “the finest young guitar maker working today,” according to Chamber Music America, was a rich and complicated one. After establishing his own brand and working for several years in New York, Stephen Marchione moved to Houston, Texas, where he builds his entire family of guitars, but Marchione has also studied privately since 1994 with Manhattan-based violin maker Guy Rabut. "I try to build one violin a year to keep my chops up" Says Marchione. He feels that building classical guitars and violins broadens his understanding of top thicknessing, tap tuning, and surface preparation. On the other hand, building electric guitars has taught him the importance of the fretboard in a player's appreciation of a guitar. Marchione is considered one of a very few leading-edge pioneers in the design of guitars that combine elements of both jazz and classical construction. This well-rounded approach contributes to the magic one finds in a Marchione instrument, a magic that is at once very broad yet truly individual.
