First available in 1987, the Studio Elite embodied the essence of the L.A. studio scene. It has the contoured and cutaway neck heel/body area with a deeper cutaway on the treble side for easier access to the upper frets. With the SSH pickup configuration, Lead/Rhythm circuit and midboost preamp, it was one of the first "Boutique Superstrats." As you can see by the photo, Tyler chose an exceptional piece of birdseye maple for this one.

CRAIG'S POVI’m not quite sure how Jim Tyler does it. Honestly, it’s hard for me to quite understand how he makes one exceptional guitar after another, yet each has its own personality and heart. The opposite of CNC sameness, yours for the playing.
As an example, here’s another great Tyler in Malibu Beach Schmear, which, btw, is my favorite schmear besides Burning Water.
For this stunning rear mount model, I chose one of my all time favorite wood combinations- maple neck and solid alder body. The combo of those woods always feels like home to me, since it mirrors that of my old reliable 1956 Fender Stratocaster. There is a certain full body warmth that comes from the alder and a punch and pop that’s added by the maple neck.
As you can see by the photo, Tyler chose an exceptional piece of birdseye maple for this baby. The birdseye really goes well with the colors that pop through the Malibu Beach finish. What you can’t see, is the incredible smooth satiny feel that comes with that awesome birdseye grain.
Looks and feel aside, none of this would matter if the guitar didn't sound great. And this one sure doesn't disappoint. The JTS5500 single coils are made with Alnico 5 magnets and have a powerful and responsive full-bodied chime to them. And the "Secret" Humbucker matches well with its open, articulated sound.
The rear mount no pickguard look with the Malibu Beach Schmear finish gives this guitar a modern, almost edgy look - something that is really unique to Tyler. Pair that look with the legendary feel - boy do I love Tyler's neck and rounded fingerboard edges!!- a splendid, open, chimey sound, and you have got yourself a truly remarkable guitar.
If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.
ABOUT TYLER GUITARS
James Tyler has had a guitar in his hand almost every day since he first picked one up the summer after seventh grade, in 1964. In college, Jim studied Architecture, Design, Music, Photography and for a couple years, Theology. He paid his way through these years of collage doing guitar repair work at local guitar stores, and as a factory trained auto mechanic for Alfa Romeo, Lancia, BMW and Fiat. Later into the 1970’s, he got connected with the guys at Norman’s Rare Guitars in the San Fernando Valley, and became their main repair and restoration guy. Jim’s abilities continued to expand and soon he had enough experience and reputation that he opened his first repair shop in Reseda, CA in 1980. Since then its been a whirlwind of successes, including being chosen to be displayed among the great California guitar companies such as Fender, Rickenbacker, Mosrite and Charvel in the Museum of California's exhibit The Ultimate Guitar Show and building for artists such as Michael Landau, David Williams, Steve Lukather, Michael Anthony, and Dan Huff. James' design shapes and various ground breaking guitar finishes and most recently his line of pickups have virtually transformed the guitar building industry.
