Preowned, 2013, excellent condition

Not many builders have the courage to tackle the design and attitude of a classic 18". But here in the shop, right now, is a wonderful statement of wood, strings and magic by the fine builder Victor Baker. Though it is "big" it is actually lighter and more ergonomic that a Super 4. Superbly constructed with just the right amount of classic art deco D'angelico sensibility, this is a masterful guitar.

CRAIG'S POV

There is something about a big ole' 18" electric archtop that excites me. Ever since I was a kid, I have felt that there was a certain magic about them. Maybe it first took hold listening to Kenny Burrell play his majestic Gibson Super 400 CES. Or maybe it was Larry Coryell's ground breaking playing with Gary Burton on the album Duster and the classic  recording Spaces. So much attitude, so much of a statement, so much courage. It was if Larry was saying "keep your Strats, Teles, 335's at home, I'm a jazzer who can play ANYTHING and that ANYTHING is going to be played on this here Gibson Super 400 CES. You have a problem with that?"

Not many builders have the courage to tackle the design and attitude of a classic 18". Superbly constructed with just the right amount of classic art deco D'angelico sensibility, this is a masterful guitar that I'd be proud to play. Baker didn't hold back on his choice of materials. Built with all European cello woods this special order guitar sings quality. I'm really impressed with the old time ice tea burst finish as well. Great build, Victor.

For those players who want the luxury of owning and playing a fine big hollow electric archtop at a gentle price, this Victor Baker Model 18 should certainly be on your radar.
