CRAIG'S POV

The Waterloo WL-14 X perfectly captures the spirit of depression-era guitars while delivering the reliability and consistency of modern craftsmanship. This guitar speaks to me with its wonderfully dry, woody voice - exactly what you'd expect from an instrument channeling the DNA of those incredible 1930s working musicians' guitars.

The X-bracing provides a wonderfully balanced, articulate response, while the addition of a truss rod delivers the stability that contemporary musicians need. The sunburst finish beautifully complements the understated aesthetic, paying homage to the humble origins of these instruments while adding a touch of vintage elegance.

The comfortable neck profile feels like it's been played for decades, and the light build lets every note bloom naturally. The Collings team has done something remarkable here - they've managed to capture not just the sound but the very soul of those early American guitars while making an instrument that's ready for the demands of modern playing.

ABOUT WATERLOO GUITARS
The Waterloo guitar line, which is produced by Collings Guitars, is a look back in time to when there was a genuine need for soulful tone that could be coaxed from simple instruments. The blues, country, and folk music played on these instruments was made in heartfelt response to the hard times of the depression era. It was music heard in work camps and barn dances, kitchens and honky-tonks, porches, street corners and churches. These musical styles became the roots of popular American music for decades to come. The Waterloo brand is all about capturing the voice and spirit of the very best depression era guitars in well-made and very playable instruments.
